I’ll share more about all the difficulties that tried to keep this trip from happening in the newsletter, but this post will be dedicated to what I wore and did during our three day stay in Los Angeles last week. Spoiler: we did almost nothing and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
WHAT I WORE//
exact blazer. exact purse. exact tee. exact converse. similar pants here and $29 here.
I vowed to stop traveling in leggings last year when I finally accepted that I’ll likely always have stress sweat when i travel. Stress sweat + leggings just does not leave the best scent combination, if you catch my drift (pun intended and I’m pretty proud of it.) I always travel in my bulkiest shoe so I don’t have to make room for it in my suitcase which is a great tip for everyone, but especially if you wear a size 12 shoe like me. A cozy pant that feels like pajamas but looks like a fancy trouser is my best case scenario. I coupled it with a super light weight tee (because stress sweat) and a super roomy blazer (because icy airplanes.) Done and done.
I do think I also have to talk about the bag here, you guys. This bag has quickly taken the spot of ‘favorite purse’ in my book because it is AMAZING. Khaite is one of my favorite brands- if I could wake up with any bag on the planet just sitting on my doorstep, it’d be this one– and it filled a gaping hole in my handbag collection. I’m at the point in my life where I want a bag that has minimal to no branding, incredible quality, a unique shape and from a brand that has phenomenal resale value. This ticks every single box. It was absolutely an investment, but I rarely buy bags and hang onto them until the end of time so it was far more worth it to me than getting a trendy bag at the same price that won’t last.
favorite tee dress. bag. similar sunglasses. similar birks.
You know how much I love this dress. If you don’t know the backstory, I saw someone wearing this at church, asked them where they got it, bought it on my phone in white and then in black. It’s that good. It also helps that it’s $50, the perfect weight and such a great length on me. It was actually hotter in L.A. than it was in Dallas during our trip so when I tell you sweat was dripping down every centimeter of my body, I mean it. I loved that
this dress let my body breathe rather than sticking to me and I’ll continue to wear it with lightweight jackets all the way through Autumn. Winnnn. I already raved about the bag but again, it was my MVP of the entire weekend.
exact tank. exact pants. exact pants in different colors. exact belt.
Just a little drama in the corner of the room courtesy of my sister’s stylistic vision.
I’ve talked about these pants before and they are truly incredible, but they are quiiite the investment. O got these for me for Christmas because I had raved and raved about them as they’re a Nili Lotan staple. Had these not been a gift, I don’t think they’d be in my closet. That being said-my goodness are they wonderful. The tank is a favorite and though the price point is low, Zara does similar tanks for the exact price.
bag. swimsuit top is almost completely sold out but some here and here. similar necklace.
This bag comes in black trim and brown trim and I can’t express how lovely it is. It’s perfect for summer, of course, but I can’t wait to wear it with brown boots or loafers for the next three months. The swimsuit is sold out almost everywhere but my goal for a bathing suit is for it to cover a solid 60% of my body so this is a win. The bottoms are super high waisted but I needed my appendectomy scars to stay fully covered and these never let me down!
shirt in white (black is sold out) shorts. similar sandals. sunglasses.
WHAT WE DID//
Our trip was not fancy. Our trip wasn’t extravagant. We cancelled our chic restaurant reservations, we decided against trying new things in favor of walking to Urth for the same breakfast every day (green juice, decaf honey latte with almond milk and an egg white omelette baby.) We ate waffle fries and doughnuts on the hotel room floor for dinner. We ate a burger and fries poolside one afternoon, shot some photos for work and walked so. very. much. Aside from walking to breakfast, walking back to the hotel and walking around town to get gifts for our babies…we didn’t do a single thing. All I needed was my Erewhon Asian Chicken Salad, Coffee from Go Get Em’ Tiger, Sweet Laurel Goodies, a stack of Erin McKenna gf/df bagels with vegan cream cheese and a whole box of Erin McKenna vegan + gluten free doughnuts to bring home for O. Give me those things plus the 1 Hotel and I truly couldn’t be a happier girl.
I wrote about why it’s worth all the effort it takes to get away a couple days a year with a girlfriend right here. I hope you can plan a two or three day staycation, vacation, road trip or whatever is possible with someone who makes you laugh, will listen to you cry and makes you feel safe enough to say, “I’m gonna go back to the room and take a nap–see you in a couple hours!” If you have a girl’s trip on the books, comment to let me know where you’re going. I’m so excited for you!
I’m currently planning an NC coast beach trip for winter 2023 with the 12 gals in my Articles Club! We’ve been a group for 6 years but have never traveled before and I’m sooooo excited!
Hoping to get away to nyc in the winter with my 5 sisters!!
