Home Renovation Update No. 1: What’s Taking So Long?

Wow. You guys lead your family with so much grace. I can’t imagine the frustration you’re going through but thank you for your transparency. Anything I can do, I’m sure there isn’t anything, but if there is I’m here!

WOW Jill, that’s a lot, however I know that with your skill, good taste & talents it’s going to be beautiful when it’s finish. I can’t wait to see the finish product. The size looks humongous and that only makes it an enormous project., but how grand it will be when it’s done. Love you and hope to get to see it one day. Bev

Oh Jill, this post has me feeling ALL the feels. Two months ago, I FINALLY moved into the house we have been planning/designing/building for over three years. We live in Sarasota, Florida, where crazy doesn’t even begin to describe our housing market. My (engineer) husband acted as General Contractor, and two months after we broke ground, I found out I was pregnant with Baby #2. Going through pregnancy (at 38) with a toddler during a house build we are “doing ourselves” and a husband working two full-time jobs was…challenging is the understatement of the century. Praise the Lord we are still married. As you said, I am incredibly grateful that the Lord and my sweet husband are fulfilling this long-time dream of mine. But I wasn’t prepared for the revealing, struggling, and humbling that this season had for me. I really wondered if I was going to make it out of 2022! There was also postpartum depression/rage issues, immense grief over a personal loss, the astronomical rise in building materials right after we started, and tight timelines because of construction loans, insurance, etc. Just know, you are not alone. I am now on the other side, although still without baseboards and door/window trim and exterior siding. But we are living in our beautiful home, and now I see that the Lord was in every.single.detail. We will be working on it for years to come, but what a privilege…a dream come true.

Jessica, Oh my goodness. I cannot believe how much I relate to this, wow wow wow. I’m so thankful for this comment even just because I feel so seen, but also for the encouragement factor. It’s always helpful when I remember this won’t last forever! I’m so happy for you and so excited you’re in your space!
