Okay, y’all. Here it is. I’m writing this in front of a gorgeous window overlooking all of Denver on our last day of the trip. We started in Chicago for our first leg, flew into Denver a few days later and then drove to Estes Park for family camp where this ‘capsule wardrobe’ was really put to the test. I had never been on a trip like it.

As much as I love travel and nature, I’m not an outdoorsy person (to the surprise of no one.) We spent an entire week splitting our times between Bible Study on the porch in the mountains, riding horses in open pasture, hiking mountain trails and everything in between. My outfits had to be purely functional, aside from two cute dress up nights, as the weather would swing from 48 degrees and drizzly to 88 degrees with blazing sun in the same 24 hour span and layers were absolutely crucial. Now, I’m in the land of wi-fi and cell service again as we’re in the actual city of Denver visiting friends and I have to ration the clothes not smeared with dirt and horse poop. All of this to say, I’m so proud of this hard-working capsule wardrobe and if you have a trip to the mountains or an adventure-heavy excursion on the horizon, this one’s for you.

Then i’ll break down why I love each piece and since I packed more than i’m showing (because my favorite pack of cool-girl socks and go-to undies don’t exactly shine in a moodboard) so I’ll talk about those items below. Bandanas: These are obviously not a crucial part of my day-to-day wardrobe but I do have quite a bandana collection because there is just nothing cuter than a child in boots and bandanas, you know?

Wool Hat: You guys. I wore this hat every single day. I’ve owned it in both brown and white for years and have loved it in every season but something just felt so right about wearing it around horses and hiking and with my frilly dresses. It’s wildly versatile and I recommend it to everyone-especially people who are scared to wear hats.

Tees: I have owned three tees from The Great for years that were certainly an investment, but when it comes to tees that will last for a really long time and look really great while doing so, these are my go-to. They have a bit of weight to them which are perfect for a trip in the mountains.


Half-Zip Knit: This was my number one MVP of the trip. Firstly, it’s just really cool and chic as far as athletic wear goes. But it’s oversized and comfy and the perfect balance between warm and lightweight. I give this thing a 10/10 and will be grabbing it in another color after the amount of wear I’ve gotten out of it, for sure.

Cowboy Boots: This is my first real pair of cowboy boots, friends, and I’m happy to report that I’m obsessed. I did so much research to find the perfect size 12 pair and these came back with rave reviews from every single person on the internet. I got red boots for both the girls and after watching them wear the snazzy boots every day lately, I’m convinced I need a red pair of my own.
